Related Beal announced today that it is redeveloping the John Jeffries House at 170 Charles Street into a new, boutique branded hotel. Scheduled to open in 2019, the new 66-room hotel will include a café and lounge area, which will provide an intimate sanctuary to meet with friends, or quiet space to relax.
Related Beal plans to complete an extensive renovation and redesign of the existing property and construct a 12,000-square foot addition where the surface parking lot is currently located, on the corner of Charles and Cambridge Street. Parking opportunities for current users of this lot will be offered at the adjacent The Charles Street Garage.
“Beacon Hill’s historic charm and central location provide the perfect setting to deliver our concept of an urban luxury boutique hotel, that includes a lounge area and café for visitors, residents and neighbors to enjoy,” said Stephen Faber, Executive Vice President of Related Beal. “We have been actively engaging the community during this process and will continue to do so throughout construction.”
Related Beal has a history of enhancing some of Boston’s most historic and beloved neighborhoods. Steps away at 144 Charles Street, the company recently launched sales of parking spaces at The Charles Street Garage, a full-service, 24-hour, professionally managed valet parking garage with a suite of amenities. Related Beal has also brought new life to the corridor linking Beacon Hill to the North End. The company recently opened Lovejoy Wharf, a 157-unit waterfront luxury condominium property designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, and in January will open The Beverly, Boston’s first 100% affordable workforce housing development in 25 years.
Related acquired the John Jeffries House from Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, in 2016. The John Jeffries House officially closed its doors on November 20.
